Northern liberties specialty sandwiches
Background: European immigrants brought the deli sandwich to the USA. The revolutions of 1848 caused German immigrants to settle north of Liberty Street in Cincinnati, Ohio. The land was not subject to municipal law. In the area of the original outlying land, Northern Liberties serves specialty sandwiches and craft cocktails. The environment is influenced by the underground life of bootleggers, saloons, and questionable acts that weren’t tolerated in Cincinnati.
Execution: Design a brand identity system that fuses Cincinnati’s rich history with it’s german heritage. The imagery used was pulled from late 1800-1900’s Cincinnati archives. The typography is inspired from old grocery store signs, deli signs, and various old New York City building typography. Northern Liberties celebrates the history of this bygone underground crime era in Cincinnati and fuses it with the city’s German heritage.
